"Blood, Sweat + Vinyl: DIY in the 21st Century" è un documentario sulla scena post hardcore americana.
Attraverso riprese dal vivo, interviste e focus artistici raccolti in ben cinque anni, il regista Kenneth Thomas si concentra su tre etichette di punta del genere: Neurot Recordings (etichetta formata dai Neurosis), Hydra Head (di Aaron Turner chitarrista cantante degli Isis) e Constellation Records... etichette in perenne bilico tra distribuzione indipendente ed attitudine DiY (autoproduzione).
Succulenta la lista dei gruppi coinvolti: Neurosis, Isis, Pelican, Cave-In, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Jesu, Grails, Oxbow eccetera eccetera

Il documentario esce in confezione deluxe con due dvd (uno col documentario ed uno con i concerti dei gruppi coinvolti) e libretto informativo sui gruppi stessi, il tutto acquistabile presso il sito ufficiale:

Regia di Banksy: uno dei più famosi, politicizzati e geniali street artist mondiali che rimane tuttora anonimo nonostante il successo planetario degli ultimi dieci anni. Ma questo non è un documentario su Banksy ma su Thierry Guetta (in arte MBW aka Mr. Brainwash), francese impiantato in America con il pallino di riprendere ogni singolo istante della propria ed altrui vita. La svolta avviene grazie al cugino francese street artist Invader, scatta la scintilla ed il nostro si butta a capofitto nelle riprese, conosce tutti, li accompagna nelle loro imprese clandestine, impara le loro tecniche, conosce finalmente il misterioso Banksy, diventano amici ed infine si lancia nel mondo dell'arte con un'impresa mastodontica che lo consacra artista di fama mondiale. Bello e interessante, evito ogni riflessione personale su protagonisti ed eventi in quanto (per i miei gusti) ho già raccontato troppo... Recommended!
