Top 30 Albums of 2022 by Radio Fango FM

The world sucks, but hopefully music never lets you down.
And here's the list of my most favorite releases of 2022.
In alphabetical order, cause music ain't a fuckin' competition...

Hope you enjoy it!

And don't forget to listen to our radioshow:

AMMO - web of lies / death won't even satisfy LP (Wallride)
One minute in this record and your head starts banging like there's no tomorrow, few seconds later you're graced by hysterical screams... And those are the element that will accompany you through the whole album, sometimes Ammo ease things a bit just to prepare you to the next dose of pummeling, unrelenting deranged hardcore punk in your face...

BACKSLIDER - psychic rot LP (To Live A Lie)
Forward thinking Power Violence. Through the years this Philly power trio managed to evolve a huge lot adding various influences to achieve its unique sound...Yes 'cause Backslider sounds exactly like... ehm... BACKSLIDER! Supreme.

BARRAGE - reloaded EP
Awesome caveman punk power violence stomping hardcore from L.A. This 2nd EP is another great banger! I still can't believe these EPs didn't received the vinyl treatment yet...

BLEACHED CROSS - s/t LP (Protagonist)
Chicago darkwave post punk with some slight indie screamo influences that contribute to make them stand apart from the rest. Beautiful voice and great songs with great rhythm session. Evocative and compelling. Beautiful in its own path.

BRAIN TOURNIQUET - 2nd 7" (Iron Lung)
Well executed, fast and aggressive hardcore power violence thrown deep down into your throat.

CRYPTAE - capsule CD (Sentient Ruin Laboratories)
I don't know if this Netherlands duo would like to be described as Cyber Death Metal, but this is actually the first terms that comes to my mind when I listen to their experimental approach to death metal. An exquisite approach in which experimentation is a tool for writing great compelling songs (which I like) and not viceversa (which I don't, or generally don't get). Great and innovative. Highly recommended.

DESBORDE - todo es una mierda 7" flexi (Yeah You!)
Brazil psycho synth latino punk. Crazy as fuck, rhythm and madness. "Panico" is an instant hit.

EXTORTION - seething 7"
10 years after their previous release, Aussie's kings of power violence return with some of their best material to date. This EP is a real destroyer. Insane hyper fast super tight and precise drumming is the icing of this already delicious cake.

FEARING - desolate EP
Being a fan of this band right from the beginning: their sound is haunting and obscure and they always deliver great songs. This EP is no exception. Definitely one of my favorite post punk band around.

FINAL DOSE - dark places 7" (Neon Nile)
This London's blackened punk band is fierce and great. Pummeling dark punk!

HANGMAN'S CHAIR - a loner 2xLP (Nuclear Blast)
This album haunted me for the whole year and it's definitely the one I mostly headed back to. I discovered this self described cold doom band from Paris (France) a couple of years ago while checking a list of some of the best doom / funeral doom albums of all time. They were on top of that list and after having listened them, I immediately understood why. This new LP is no exception: a majestic songwriting with a beautiful voice, haunting guitar riffs and the pummeling rhythm session. Songs that immediately stick in your head. A truly captivating feeling. Exquisitely decadent, and I love falling into it.

IRON STORM - demo 2022
Blackened punk from Paris. Three perfect songs of dark and decadent yet urgent punk.

LISA GERRARD + MARCELLO DE FRANCISCI - exaudia (Atlantic Curve / Schubert Music Europe)
Lisa Gerrard wrote some of my most favorite music during her years in Dead Can Dance alongside her bandmate Brendan Perry. I have to admit I didn't follow her solo career but let me tell you she became a worldwide well known and much appreciated soundtrack composer (everything from documentary to Hollywood blockbusters). Until I meet her again with this album's first single "Until we meet again". Ok silly jokes aside, this track is my favorite song of the year and the whole album is gorgeous. I know I should have followed her career more, Lisa please forgive my lazyness...

MOCK EXECUTION - killed by... LP (La Vida Es Un Mus)
D-beatesque raw punk with a fine anarcho punk influence! Top punk release of the year. It's on La Vida Es Un Mus Records, so you know it's awesome menacing punk for the punks.

MORROW - the quiet earth 2xLP (Alerta Antifascista)
A neo-crust manifesto! For their third installment Morrow not only released another great epic neo crust gem of superb songwriting, they also asked a lot of great crust punk vocalists to join in as guests, adding more greatness to something that was already over the top. Best crust in a while.

NYX DIVISION - dark star CD (Bat-Cave Productions)
Portland's goth post punk awesomeness. This EP resound 80s at every bit and it's topped by a wonderful voice. Majestic.

PENNY RIMBAUD AND YOUTH - corpus mei LP (One Little Independent)
Penny Rimbaud (Crass) and Youth (Killing Joke) joined forces together with also Eve Libertine (Crass) as a special guest. The album consists in Penny's poems recited over Youth's orchestral compositions. As a result everything here is great and immersive. Poems that mainly reflect of nature exploitation by humanity and more... Too bad lyrics are not printed but it's just a minor complaining. Anyway an amazing album with great atmosphere... So British, let me say. Highly recommended.

PERSON@ - free your mind! LP (Iron Lung)
Deranged chaotic hardcore punk fury! Bombastic noise non stop.

PRAYERS - chologoth LP
Cholo culture mixed with goth darkwave music with a bit of punk attitude... All songs here are instant hits. Guilty pleasure.

PRIMER REGIMEN - 1983 EP 7" (Discos Enfermos)
I love this punk band. You should know by now that Bogotà (Colombia) have the best punk scene in the world and Primer Regimen is one of their finest export. Go listen to this right now!

PUS - pus ii LP (Discos Enfermos)
Lima, Peru wonderful dark punk fury. Being a fan from their very first release, I'm glad they landed in such a great label too. Great obscure sounding menacing punk.

SHAPE OF DESPAIR - return to the void LP (Season Of Mist)
Despite new to me, this funeral doom band formed in 1995 and have a very rich back catalogue on their shoulders. But as for now I'm just focusing on their latest masterpiece with its incredibly low dark and depressive cavernous funeral mood (read it in reverse and there you'll have it: doom!!!). The contrast between the incredibly down tuned growling vocals and clean vocals is also top notch. The overall atmosphere I get from this album is ecstatic despite its overall depressive mood. Sorrow and despair. Repeat. Sorrow and despair. Repeat. Sorrow and despair... Seriously: a real masterpiece which makes me wonder why I don't dig funeral doom more often...

STRAW MAN ARMY - sos LP (D4MT Labs Inc Neurosonic Research / La Vida Es Un Mus)
Second album from this great anarcho punk / post punk band from New York City. Unique sound topped by well thought and written lyrics that are always reflective and political. Top class punk.

SYNDROME 81 prisons imaginaires LP (Destructure / Sabotage)
Everyone's favorite French Oi! Punk band returns with an amazing album packed with awesome tracks. No fillers here, all great immortal tunes to sing or scream along plus a great closing post punk hit...  I'm so glad I pre-ordered this album 'cause pre-orders received an unannounced extra LP packed with demo tracks, b-sides and alternative takes which are equally great. You can imagine my surprise when I opened the parcel and found two albums instead of one! As said, they didn't announced it... Such a great surprise, such a great gift... But if you missed that chance don't worry, those tracks are already available on their bandcamp and there's plans to do a vinyl version of this additional album in the future.

THEY LIVE / NO COMPLY - split 5" (625 Thrash / To Live A lie)
Two of the most criminally underrated punishing power violence bands from the mid Nineties united in the most iconic vinyl format for the genre (the 5"), co-produced by two of the greatest labels of all time... That's the perfect formula for an awesome release!

TRIBAL GAZE - the nine choirs CD (Maggot Stomp)
Woah! Bombastic galloping death metal with some exceptional minimal stomping breakdowns. Very very very good!

UZU - s/t CS
A truly great post punk album from this Montreal based band. The icing on the cake is the singing in Arabic that gives those songs an amazing feeling and musicality. I love it.

VISION VIDEO - haunted hours LP
The opening "Beautiful day to day" is such an exquisite goth hit. You will sing it until you will.. ehm die.  Dance music for the end times as they self describe their goth pop sound. Add a lovely, charismatic and most of the time funny social presence and you got all the package. Love this people.

WORMROT - hiss LP (Earache)
Wormrot from Singapore needs no introduction to any grindcore fan... Getting better and better with every release, they evolved in this incredible beast they are today. Pulverizing forward thinking grindcore that does not hesitate in experimenting adding a great array of different influences, all kept in a very cohesive vision. Awesome songwriting and blasting madness.

ZOLA JESUS - arkhon LP (Sacred Bones)
I love Zola Jesus. She never looks back, she continue evolve her music following her own path. And this new one is topo notch. Just expect nother dose of haunting dark intriguing and very emotional songs topped by her incredible unique voice. Thank you Nicole!
